15% growth of lands under saffron cultivation in Marand
The director of Jihad Agriculture of Marand city said: Currently, 250 farmers are engaged in saffron production in this city.
Jalal Rahimzadeh on the sidelines of the second saffron festival, referring to a 15% increase in the area under cultivation of this crop in the agricultural lands of Marand city, said: 360 kg of dry saffron will be obtained from 90 hectares of land under cultivation of this crop.
He continued: this amount of saffron has a value of 14 billion rials and proper processing and packaging will increase its added value.
He added: The color of high quality saffron is reddish-yellow-orange, while saffron has a very pleasant and penetrating smell, so that the more the smell of saffron, the fresher it is, and the low smell is a sign that saffron is old or not pure.
Rahimzadeh, pointing out that due to the lack of cohesive trade unions and saffron processing and packaging centers in Marand city, said: the main product of this city is sold in different ways and in bulk within the province, which is the immediate efforts of farmers. Disappears.
The director of Jihad-e-Agriculture of Marand city also announced the implementation of the development plan of saffron product processing and packaging center in this city.
He said: We are trying to invest in and use modern and up-to-date packaging machines, and at the same time, by forming and supporting more and more production organizations in the agricultural sector, the way to create small and active units of smooth packaging and supply is possible. The product should be provided in the best packaging so that other intermediaries can not damage the strategic, economic value of this product.
He continued: Marand city, due to having a variety of climates and being located on the slopes of Mount Mishu, many of its garden and agricultural products, including saffron, have the highest quality.
He said: in the last 20 years, the amount of saffron cultivation in this city has increased significantly, which has increased from one hectare in 1371 to more than 90 hectares in 1390.
