Ali Hosseini, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Saffron in Birjand, pointed to the cultivation of saffron in South Khorasan, adding: “Currently, 15 percent of the country’s saffron is produced in southern Khorasan.
He added that while over three decades ago, more than 90 percent of the country’s saffron was produced in southern Khorasan and southern Khorasan, it seems that the development of saffron farms in southern Khorasan seems to be halting and has stopped in some areas.
Member of the Board of Directors of the Saffron National Council said: “This is our concern about the unwanted migration of saffron into areas that do not have water problems in our province, while this product has been the only economic power of the region for centuries.”
Husaini pointed out that the main cradle and the main hometown of saffron is today’s Southern Khorasan, but unfortunately oblivious, said: Unfortunately, the current level of saffron cultivation in southern Khorasan is declining.
He pointed out that the saffron of southern Khorasan is now forgotten, and the susceptibility of the province’s saffron has disappeared, and the area under cultivation of saffron is decreasing and it is transferred to Khorasan Razavi and North Khorasan.
Member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Saffron noted: in this regard, we must try to preserve this product, which is our history in southern Khorasan and is located with the province.
Hosseini said: “Therefore, we should increase the cultivation area of ​​saffron in southern Khorasan, and plan for it more thoroughly and manage more.”
He pointed out, “Because saffron is one of the strategic products of South Khorasan, so we should not allow for forgetfulness, but we must try to keep it.”
