170 tons of dried saffron is harvested from saffron farms in Khorasan
This year, 170 tons of dry saffron will be harvested from saffron farms in Khorasan Razavi province, which is a 40% decrease compared to last year.
Engineer Hossein Sabeghi, director of horticulture of Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization, said:
44 thousand and 800 hectares of lands in Khorasan Razavi province are under saffron cultivation and due to drought and hot weather,
we will have a 40% reduction in this crop in Khorasan Razavi province.
The former said:
Due to the decrease in production, the price of saffron has increased and this increase in price is a little worrying.
He said:
At present, each kilo of saffron is bought and sold in the market at a price of 500 to 600 thousand Tomans,
while the announced price is 390 thousand Tomans.
He added:
Due to this high price of saffron shopping centers, the Rural Cooperative Organization of the province has not yet bought saffron
from farmers this year.
Horticulture director of Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization said:
Saffron product has a very high appreciation for us and has created 72,000 permanent jobs in the country.
The former said:
If the area under saffron cultivation develops, it will have consequences
in the future and we will see a decline in saffron prices as in previous years.
Horticulture director of Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization stated:
Although the Rural Cooperative Organization has activated saffron shopping centers,
but due to the increase in market prices, it has not yet bought any product from farmers.
