20% increase in saffron harvest in Bafgh city

The director of Bafgh Agricultural Jihad announced a 20% increase in saffron production in this city and said:
60 hectares of the city’s lands have been considered for saffron cultivation, of which 45 hectares are allocated to Sabzdasht village and the rest to Sabzdasht city.

Hamid Askari Bagherabadi added:
from this area under cultivation, 50 hectares are fertile and 10 hectares are not fertile yet.

He mentioned the increase of cultivated area, mild autumn weather,
proper fertilization as well as timely irrigation and use of herbicides in saffron
fields as the most important factors for the growth of this crop in Bafgh city.

He considered saffron as a plant without water and added:
saffron onion is propagated one year after planting in the ground and is produced more than 10 years later.
He announced the time of irrigation of this product in winter and said:
in summer, when trees and other products are in dire need of irrigation,
saffron leaves dry out and there is no need for irrigation until autumn,
when it is time to harvest this product. that’s why.
The commander of the army said that more than 450 farmers are active in planting and harvesting saffron, adding:
Distributing fertilizers and pesticides and holding training courses to improve the area under cultivation and increase
the yield is one of the main services of Bafgh Agricultural Jihad.
He considered saffron as red gold and one of the export cultivars considered by the government and said:
Every year in the green area of ​​Dasht, we see an increase in the area under cultivation of this valuable product.
He enumerated the number of cities in South Khorasan and added:

Bafgh is the center of Bafgh city in Yazd province in Iran.
According to the 2016 census, this city has a population of 45,453 people.
