20% reduction in saffron harvest in Sabzevar farms
Director of Sabzevar Agricultural Jihad said: saffron production in city decreased by 20%.
Mansour Barghomadi, referring to the 20% reduction in saffron production in city, said:
This year, 3 kg and 500 g of saffron were harvested from each hectare of cultivated area,
while last year this amount was 4 kg and 500 g.
He said that the production of saffron last year has decreased by more than 20% compared to this year, he said:
last year was 6,500 kg and this year reached 5,500 kg.
Barghamdi said that farmers need 4,000 cubic meters of saffron per hectare:
Unfortunately, water shortages and the continuation of drought and lack of water and land for saffron
cultivation have reduced saffron production.
He added:
Farmers cultivate this crop regardless of water resources due to its greater profitability,
which has reduced the production of this crop.
Director of Sabzevar Agricultural Jihad, stating that the highest area of city cultivation is related to the sixth section of this city, said:
out of 1,500 hectares of saffron cultivation area in city, 1,100 hectares are in the sixth section.
