The horticulture director of the North Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization said: Saffron production in this province is expected to increase to three tons this year.
Mohammad Ali Sharikian added: the amount of saffron harvest is expected to reach 18 tons this fall.
He announced a saffron harvest of 15 tons last year.
Sharikian pointed out that most of the saffron produced in this province belongs to Farouj city, and continued: 75% of North Khorasan saffron is produced in Farouj city.
He stated: The area under saffron cultivation in this province is 3,206 hectares, which is over 2,000 hectares in Farooj city.
The official clarified: “Currently, the saffron grown in this province has reached the flowering stage and the collection stage will begin within the next month.”
