30% reduction in saffron harvest in Gonabad city

Director of Gonabad Agricultural Jihad said: Due to recent droughts and water shortages in some villages, saffron harvest has decreased by 30% this year.

Alireza Hosseinzadeh added: This year, about 3,500 hectares of agricultural lands in Gonabad city have been allocated for saffron cultivation, and we hope that the level of red gold harvest this year will increase compared to last year.

He added: Last year, about 9 tons of saffron were harvested from the farms of this city and for this year, we predict the same amount for harvest.

Director of Gonabad Agricultural Jihad, pointing out that part of saffron cultivation farms in Gonabad city are irrigated by tanker, clarified: Drought in recent years in Gonabad city has caused us to use tankers to irrigate these farms and in areas of the city where water resources It is affected by drought and with a severe decrease in discharge, it is predicted that the saffron harvest will decrease by 30 to 50% compared to previous years.

Hosseinzadeh pointed out: Gonabad city has faced the problem of lack of water resources in recent years and the possibility of increasing the area under saffron cultivation for this year was not provided due to these problems and the same area under cultivation last year was repeated this year.

Saffron harvest in Gonabad starts in the second half of November and continues until the 10th of Azar.
