40% reduction in saffron production in Rashtkhar city
The head of plant production of Jihad Keshavarzi Rashtkhar said:
following the rain, frost and prolongation of drought in this city this year, saffron production is facing a decrease of 40%.
Engineer Ebrahim Asadi today, November 8, during a visit to saffron farms among farmers in Rashtkhar city, said:
following the rains and cold of the past few days in this city, saffron farmers in this city, despite great damage,
are facing a sharp decline in saffron production on their farms.
He said that the saffron harvest in this city has started from the level of 5400 hectares, he said:
in this city with this cold situation and the prolongation of the drought, saffron production this year will produce only 9 tons from 14 tons last year.
Asadi said that the situation of saffron production this year is not good, adding:
the amount of flowers that came to the market is one third of last year and on the other hand, prices are low.
He added:
Rainfall causes a severe decline in quality because rain-soaked saffron loses its quality.
Asadi emphasized that the profits from the fluctuations of the dollar price on the saffron market go to foreigners:
Currently, more than 93% of saffron is exported to different countries in packages.
