42 hectares of Kurdistan lands are dedicated to saffron cultivation
The director of horticulture affairs of Kurdistan Jihad Agricultural Organization said: in the current crop year, 42 hectares and 500 square meters of lands in this province have been allocated for saffron cultivation.
Zahed Hajimirzaei stated that out of this amount of cultivated area, about 23 hectares are fertile and 19 hectares are infertile. He said: At present, 60 farmers in Kurdistan province are cultivating and producing saffron.
He added: The highest area of saffron cultivation is allocated to Dehgolan city with eight hectares, followed by Bijar with more than seven hectares and Sarvabad with more than six hectares in the next categories.
Director of Horticulture of Kurdistan Jihad Agricultural Organization continued: This year, more than 22 kg of saffron will be harvested in Kurdistan province, most of which is related to Dehgolan with 9 kg.
Haji Mirzaei pointed to the benefits of saffron cultivation in the province and added: Saffron on the one hand has an extremely low water requirement and on the other hand in terms of employment is really employment-generating and requires a lot of manpower during operation and its processing and application in industry Food has a high export potential and ultimately a good income.
He said: Considering that most of our saffron workers are in the early years of their production and saffron enters the process of reproduction and exploitation from the third year onwards, its production rate is low, but if we reach the peak of saffron production per hectare between five We will have seven kilos of performance.
The director of horticulture affairs of the Kurdistan Agricultural Jihad Organization reminded: The development of saffron cultivation in Kurdistan is one of the most important programs of the Agricultural Jihad to increase farmers’ incomes in low-yield lands, which is being pursued closely.
