50% increase in saffron cultivation in Zarandieh city

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Zarandieh city announced a 50% increase in the amount of saffron cultivation in the lands of this city compared to last year.

Ahmad Gharabegloo added: The increase in saffron cultivation in this city is due to farmers’ knowledge of this precious product, proper promotion by agricultural jihad experts and also the low need of this product for water.

He pointed out that according to experts, each hectare of saffron land will generate an average net income of 50 million tomans for farmers, adding: Due to lack of water resources in this city, farmers’ motivation to grow crops with less water needs has increased, while generating income. Director of Zarandieh Agricultural Jihad, referring to the severe reduction of groundwater resources in the country, stressed the need to pay attention to the pattern of cultivation in farms and gardens as one of the necessities of agriculture and added: Planting plants with low water requirements and reducing cultivation costs It is one of the things that should be considered in the better implementation of the cultivation pattern plan.

He continued: Saffron crop is a successful example of economic production considering the optimal planting conditions, which can be a good alternative for arid and dry agricultural areas.

Gharabiglou stated: Considering that saffron planting, holding and harvesting operations do not interfere much with other agricultural operations in terms of time, so it is possible to proceed with the development and construction of saffron farms with proper planning.

He said: In recent years, the farmers of Zarandieh have welcomed this product more and now about 67,000 square meters of agricultural land in the city has been planted with this product.

The official in charge of Jihad-e-Keshavarzi Zarandieh continued: Due to the young saffron farms of the city, the average yield of this product is about three kilograms per hectare, which is about 20 kilograms of pure saffron harvested in this city during the current year. .

He said: Due to the trend of increasing the area under cultivation of this crop, it is expected that a significant area of ??land will be allocated to saffron cultivation in the current crop year.

According to Qara Biglou, the quality of Zarandieh saffron product is very good and can be exported, and currently more than 18 farms in the city are dedicated to saffron cultivation and have created significant employment.
