50% increase in the price of saffron flowers on the eve of harvest

A member of the National Saffron Council announced a 50% increase in the price of saffron flowers on the eve of the harvest season and said: ‌ Currently, each kilogram of saffron flowers is pre-purchased by brokers for 45,000 Tomans, but organizations should not allow brokers to make profits by providing liquidity to farmers.

Ali Hosseini stated: ‌ The price of saffron flowers has increased falsely in the current days that we are on the eve of the harvest season, but it will be more balanced in the future.

He added: Currently, each kilogram of saffron flowers in the farms of South Khorasan province is priced at about 60 thousand tomans, but the brokers have pre-purchased this product for 45 thousand tomans per kilogram from saffron growers.

This member of the National Saffron Council continued: ‌ The price of each kilogram of saffron flowers last year was about 30 thousand tomans, which with an increase of 50%, is expected to reach about 45 thousand tomans this year. Also, each kilogram of saffron was bought and sold for about three million tomans last year, which has increased to about five million tomans this year.

Hosseini emphasized: ‌ Due to the appropriate production situation and the possibility of increasing saffron harvest this year, it is predicted that the price of saffron flowers and processed saffron will decrease this year and traders will suffer.

He said: ‌ Due to the lack of liquidity, farmers have to sell their saffron flowers to brokers before harvest, organizations can not allow brokers to make a profit by providing liquidity to farmers through specialized banks and funds.
