550 hectare area increase under saffron cultivation in Torbat-e Jam
Director of Torbat-e Jam Agricultural Jihad said:
the area under saffron cultivation in this city has increased by 550 hectares
during the current crop year compared to the same period last year.
Jafar Javadi added:
The harvest of saffron from the area under cultivation of 3,100 hectares
in Torbat-e-Jam has started, and the current average harvest of saffron per hectare from Torbat-e Jam farms is four and a half kilograms.
He said:
the volume of saffron harvest in the 94-95 crop year has increased by about 16% compared to the previous year.
The director of Torbat-e Jam Agricultural Jihad stated:
Cultivation of this product has a high production efficiency
due to its low cost and the small amount of water that is consumed.
Javadi said:
Most saffron growers cultivate this valuable crop in water-scarce areas,
He pointed out:
saffron cultivation will start in the first half of July and will be harvested in the second half of October.
