Agricultural students of Yazd University of Iran planted saffron without soil in the greenhouse of this university.

Somayeh Ghasemi Associate Professor and Director of the Department of Rehabilitation and Management of Dry and Desert Areas of Yazd University said in this regard:
This project is aimed at entrepreneurship for agricultural students And in the form of a master’s thesis It has been done in soilless cultivation systems.

He added:
Today, due to increased demand and limited land, new cultivation techniques for production This medicinal plant is used One of them is hydroponic and aeroponic cultivation.

Ghasemi continued:
Due to the import and high price of hydroponic system substrates, In this study, various excellent materials were used to replace imported substrates It is cultivated in a 75-square-meter hall on two rows of four-story shelves.

Regarding the benefits of this project, he said:

In this type of cultivation, Saffron produces fresh and fragrant flowers in a soilless environment And it doesn’t need a lot of space and it also comes to fruition in one to two months.

According to the Yazd University associate professor, another benefit of this cultivation is Increased density per unit area, nutrition management and environmental conditions, It is easy to harvest and reduce manpower compared to soil killings.
