Dollar export of Khorasan Razavi saffron in the pockets of brokers
The export of saffron, however, is justified only if the agriculture, which sometimes puts its life and capital in this direction, can enjoy its great results.
During the last year, of course, there is not much good news from the Khorasan-e-Razavi saffron field, and the latest news in this regard was that the demands of many saffron growers have remained on the ground since last year and have not been practically settled.
In a few months, the new saffron season will begin in Khorasan Razavi, and while the demands of the previous season remain, this issue can greatly hurt farmers in this area.
But what strategies should be put on the agenda in this regard so that saffron growers can also earn more?
Nasrullah Pejmanfar, the representative of the people of Mashhad and Kalat in the parliament, said: One of the long-standing problems in the field of saffron in the country in general and saffron in Khorasan-Razavi in particular is that there are major problems in the field of saffron packaging.
He added: In this regard, the main problem should be sought in the conversion industries, which have not expanded enough to be able to export saffron with a neat and appropriate packaging.
The representative of the people of Mashhad and Kalat in the parliament continued: in addition to the lack of conversion industries, the sale of raw materials has inflicted irreparable damage on the saffron economy in recent years, and this product should be sent to the markets in a processed form.
Pejmanfar stated: we should distance ourselves from the bulk sales of this strategic product and take advantage of the conversion industries so that saffron growers all over the country can benefit the most from this field.
He added: All these issues cause us not to have a good share and basket in the global market of this product, despite the high production of saffron in the country, and on the other hand, selling raw saffron causes the presence of brokers in this field to be prominent.
Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, another member of the Khorasan-e-Razavi Assembly of Representatives, also said in this regard: The demands of saffron growers have remained on the ground since last year, and basic action must be taken to pay these demands.
He added: The price of saffron in the world market is high, but unfortunately farmers and saffron growers do not benefit from this high rate, and the main profit goes to the pockets of brokers who are active in this field.
A member of the House of Representatives of Khorasan Razavi continued: Guaranteed purchase is a solution that the government took in this area last year and reorganized some of the saffron farmers’ livelihood areas.
