Beginning of saffron harvest from 4200 hectares of Khalilabad lands

Majid Taherpour, director of Khalilabad Agricultural Jihad, announced the beginning of saffron harvesting in this city and said: Khalilabad farmers are harvesting more than fourteen tons of dry saffron from 4200 hectares of their farms this year.

Referring to the decrease in saffron yield in Khalilabad, he noted: This year, due to the decrease in rainfall in March of last year and also the unprecedented heat in recent years, we are witnessing a decrease in saffron yield.

Taherpour stated that in order to support saffron growers, 400 tons of various chemical fertilizers have been distributed, and specified: each hectare of saffron had about 220 working days for the harvest stage and needs, and the maximum workforce is in the flower harvest season.

He also announced: Also, in order to increase productivity and the need to disinfect saffron onions and use high quality and large onions, regular visits were made by agricultural jihad experts to saffron farms under construction.

The director of Khalilabad Agricultural Jihad further announced the implementation of a joint project with UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and stated: In this project, an agricultural expert will be used to hold training classes and monitor how saffron is planted and maintained. And this project has started as a pilot in Mazdeh village.

At the end of his address to the farmers, he reminded: Dear farmers, after harvesting saffron flowers, timely irrigation and considering the existence of various chemical fertilizers in the warehouses of the city from urea and potassium chloride fertilizers according to the opinion of agricultural jihad experts and in stages It is also necessary to weed and fight against weeds in saffron fields and spray them with various chemical fertilizers and micronutrients.
