Saffron cultivation was developed in Kazerun city
Farmers in Kazerun city have been lucky enough to plant saffron in low water conditions, so that the area under cultivation of this plant shows an increase of more than 20% compared to last year.
The expert of Kazerun Agricultural Services Center said in this regard: Due to the climatic situation of this city and in order to replace the cultivation of low-water crops, we took steps to promote and develop saffron cultivation in the region among farmers.
Mojtaba Hooshmandi added: The impact of saffron cultivation on farmers’ economy and job creation in the region and low water consumption are some of the reasons why farmers welcome saffron cultivation in the region.
He added: According to scientific estimates, the amount of water used to cultivate each hectare of saffron is three thousand cubic meters, which with three times of rain at a rate of 100 mm each time, the water required for the cultivation of this product is provided.
Zahra Panah, horticulture expert of Kazerun Agricultural Jihad Management, referring to the income generation of this product for farmers, said that this year 5 hectares of lands in Kazerun city have been planted with saffron, which shows a 20 to 25 percent increase in cultivation compared to last year.
He added that it is expected that four to five kilograms of saffron will be harvested from each hectare of cultivated area.
Panah added that the management of Kazerun Agricultural Jihad assists farmers in monitoring and consulting from the time of planting to harvesting the payment of facilities and buying saffron onions.
A saffron farmer also said: The work of the farmers in this area was pomegranate gardening, which dried up with the droughts of the previous years and the lack of water in the pomegranate trees, and instead we used alternative cultivation and low water on saffron.
He said: After receiving 40 million Tomans from the Barakat Foundation, this year we started cultivating saffron, which has an important role in the economy and job creation compared to other products.
