Kerman ranks fourth in saffron cultivation in Iran

Horticulture director of Kerman Jihad Agricultural Organization, stating that saffron harvest has started in mid-November and will continue until late autumn, said: this province is ranked fourth in terms of saffron cultivation in the country.

Mehdi Lotfalizadeh stated: It is predicted that up to 5,100 kilograms of saffron will be harvested from 1,600 hectares of farms in this province this year.

Lotfalizadeh pointed out: The highest area of ​​saffron cultivation in the province is related to Zarand and the lowest area under cultivation is related to Reagan city.

He pointed out that most of the harvested product is consumed in Kerman province and part of it is exported through neighboring provinces, he said: smallholder ownership and frost are among the problems of saffron growers.

Lotfalizadeh also added: the favorable climate in this province and the timely granting of facilities to saffron growers has increased the welcome of farmers for planting saffron.

He also mentioned the replacement of low-water products with water-based products, the possibility of producing quality products in accordance with export standards, creating jobs for human resources, activating related industries such as small home saffron processing workshops as other benefits of saffron cultivation.
