Seven cities of Tehran province under saffron cultivation

This product has become a profitable and important plant for cultivation in the capital due to its high economic efficiency,
job creation for families, as well as its low water demand in Tehran province.
on the continuation of this project and increasing its cultivation level in 2009.

Saffron is one of the most efficient products in terms of water consumption efficiency in the world.
The growing season of saffron is most consistent with the rainfall pattern throughout the country,
including Tehran, in other words, the plant begins to grow with the onset of autumn rains and ends with the end of spring rains.

Saffron corms have been dormant for 5 months since mid-May,
when the spring rains stop, and do not need irrigation during this period.

Various studies on saffron cultivation and the possibility of its development in different
areas of Tehran province indicate that in all these areas, including the cities of Rey,
Damavand and Varamin, the amount of saffron harvest is most affected by temperature and humidity, ie lower temperatures.
Increases harvest efficiency and other factors are less effective.

Saffron is cultivated in Pakdasht, Robat Karim, Varamin, Shahriyar, Islamshahr, Damavand and Shahr-e-Rey counties
and 5.4 kg of saffron is obtained per hectare of land.
Its production is currently 0.81 tons in the fertile area of 150.1 hectares in Tehran province, and in this regard,
it is the seventh in the country and the second in the country in terms of yield per kilo per hectare.
