Picking Saffron in Torbat Heydarieh
Mohammad Karimi Farzaghi has started saffron harvesting in Torbat-e-Heydarieh and added: Saffron harvest started at the level of eight thousand and 400 hectares of the province’s forests in the last few days.
He said that the average harvest of saffron in this area is four kilograms per hectare.
Director of Agricultural Jihad, Torbat Heydarieh said: “Given the very favorable rainfall this spring, the increase in harvest compared to last year is also not expected.
Karimi said about saffron planting status: Saffron onion, unlike other agricultural species, is usually asleep in the summer, and as soon as it is asleep in May it can be applied to planting, and early July, the chemical interactions of onion saffron are started and ready for flowering. Therefore, planting operations should be performed.
He stated: Generally, flowering of saffron flowers is in the cold climate of the plain of Rokht Torbat Heidarieh, the temperate climate of the central part of Torbat Heydarieh and the city of Zawah, as well as the hot spring of the city of Mahwalat from the beginning of October and until the end of November.
One of the most prominent products of Torbat Heydarieh, which is ranked first in Iran and the world, is Saffron, which cultivates at 8,000 and 400 hectares with an annual production of about 34 tons of products.
