A sharp drop in the price of saffron flowers in Farooj
The director of Farooj Rural Cooperative announced a sharp drop in the price of saffron flowers in the city.
Khaleghpanah, pointing out that the harvest of saffron flowers in Farooj city has started from the last 10 days, said: At first, the purchase and sale of saffron flowers was done at a price of about 240 thousand Tomans, but now it has reached a price of 90 thousand Tomans.
He added: The price of saffron was 20 million tomans at the beginning of the harvest, which has reached 9 to 10 million tomans.
Khaleghpanah continued: If the price of saffron gem does not reach 15 to 16 million tomans, collecting and cleaning saffron flowers will not be economically viable for the farmer.
Referring to the launch of a saffron flower market in Farooj, he said: With the launch of this market, pricing on saffron flowers has stabilized.
The official stated that 35 booths have been set up to buy saffron flowers, adding that 20 booths have been rented by flower buyers.
He added: We had planned the rest of the booths for flower buyers in other areas, and perhaps because they did not have enough information about this bazaar, they did not take action to rent it.
In an interview with ISNA over the past few days, Mohammad Ali Sharikian, director of horticulture at the Jihad Agricultural Organization, said: 21 tons of this crop is expected to be harvested from 4,300 hectares of saffron farms in the province this year.
According to him, 19 tons of saffron were harvested from the fruit fields of North Khorasan last year.
Partners added: the amount of saffron harvest per hectare of farms in this province is seven kilograms.
He specified: North Khorasan is ranked third in the country in terms of saffron cultivation area and production of this product.
The official said: On the other hand, the quality of this product is high.
