An additional 80 kg of saffron was harvested in Khash city

Director of Khash Sistan and Baluchestan Agricultural Jihad said: more than 80 kg of saffron was harvested from 13 hectares of agricultural lands in this city.

Shahrzad Kamali stated: Saffron is cultivated in October and the required onions have been prepared by the Agricultural Jihad with the participation of farmers from South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi and provided to farmers.
Referring to the compatibility of saffron cultivation in Khash climate, he added: Harvesting of this crop begins in the second half of November and continues until early December.
Director of Khash Agricultural Jihad said: saffron cultivation has been done in order to change the cultivation pattern and optimize water consumption in this city.
He said: Saffron or red gold is one of the most economical agricultural products in the country that needs low water and is resistant to drought.
Kamali continued: Due to the occurrence of continuous droughts, depletion of groundwater aquifers, the need to make agriculture economical and lead farmers to model crops, saffron cultivation should replace water products due to greater profitability.

Khash, Mirjaveh, Zahedan, Zahak, Zabol, Hamoon, Helmand and Nimroz are the major saffron producing cities in Sistan and Baluchestan.
