Be careful of genetic saffron storage!

The head of the saffron unit of the Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization said: The departure of saffron onions from the province and the country is a serious threat to the saffron market.

Ramin Asmi stated: Saffron onion as a genetic reserve should not be taken out of the province and the country, its genetic registration has been pursued for the past 2 years to prevent possible abuses.

Referring to the need to issue a permit to move saffron onions within the province, he said: to send onions to other provinces, they must coordinate with the police, the Department of Roads and Transportation and the governor’s office.

The head of saffron of Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization stated: “Unfortunately, other provinces, such as Khorasan Razavi, are not sensitive to the export of saffron onions from the country, and this causes saffron onions to leave Iran.”

He announced the production of saffron in the two provinces of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan as 300 tons and added: about 200 to 250 tons of saffron produced in the province will be exported and if demand increases, the two provinces of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan will be able to produce 500 tons of saffron. .

Asmi stated: Saffron is a comparative advantage of Khorasan Razavi and other provinces such as Kermanshah and Azerbaijan should plant crops according to their comparative advantage.

He stressed the need for the health of exported saffron and specified: European markets have special standards regarding the health of saffron and its absence of toxins and chemical fertilizers, and Iran must ensure the health of its saffron product to maintain these markets.

The head of the saffron unit of Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization stated that one of the dangers of saffron is maintaining its market in target countries and added: Iran is the largest producer of saffron in the world, but countries like Spain and UAE are Iran’s main competitors in target markets.

Referring to the progress of saffron product processing in the last 5 years, he said: In the province, there are 74 processing and packaging units with a capacity of 350 tons of saffron, which are packaged according to the tastes of the target country.

Saying that price stabilization is one of the problems of the saffron market, Asmi said: First, the low price season and the end of the price season increase, so to prevent this from happening, a saffron bank must be created to remove intermediaries and brokers from the saffron market.

The head of the saffron unit of the Khorasan Razavi Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization stated: “Unfortunately, traders and merchants have unhealthy competition and seek to ruin each other’s markets. In this regard, the union and the National Saffron Council have not been able to establish the necessary coordination between traders.
