The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of South Khorasan, referring to the beginning of the saffron harvest season in the province, said: Saffron harvest has started in some areas of the province, the peak of which will be mid-November and will continue until late November or early December.
Gholamreza Haderbadi said: This province, with a cultivated area of ​​about 13,000 hectares, is the second largest producer of saffron in the country and it is expected that 41 tons of saffron with a value of 600 billion rials will be harvested this year.
He added: Due to the special climatic conditions and also the observance of the principles of sustainable agriculture regarding the minimal use of the main toxins of saffron in this province, it is produced with high quality and organically.
The head of the South Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization stated: The highest area under saffron cultivation belongs to Ghaen city. Haderbadi said: Last year, the amount of 330 million Tomans for mobile water supply to saffron orchards and farms was spent by this organization with the help of the General Directorate of Crisis Management of the province and this year water supply to saffron farms is underway.
He continued: According to the follow-ups done by this organization, the comprehensive plan for improving the quantity and quality of saffron products has been approved by the Parliamentary Infrastructure Commission, which will be implemented during two five-year plans after approval by the cabinet and funding. It was stated that maintaining a comparative advantage and promoting competitiveness in foreign trade through productivity in saffron production and maintaining a superior position in world trade will follow.
The head of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of South Khorasan added: Currently, 24 thousand and 500 people are working in the field of saffron in the province.
Regarding the agreed purchase of saffron, Haderbadi said: In order to improve the price of saffron, an agreed purchase will be made this year.
