Beginning of saffron harvest from 10 hectares in Varamin city

The director of Jihad Keshavarzi of Varamin city said: the saffron flower harvesting work started from 10 hectares of arable lands of this city.

Mohsen Banaian said: In the historical history of Varamin agriculture, saffron cultivation has always been common as an important commodity and the suitable climate and fertile soil of this city is suitable for cultivating this crop.

He added: One of the most important limitations of agricultural development in Varamin city is agricultural water and saffron can be considered more in the field of agriculture than before due to its low need for water and added value to farmers.

He added: According to the measures and researches, the development of saffron cultivation in Varamin city is on the agenda of Jihad Keshavarzi management and the area under cultivation of this plant has increased to 10 hectares this year.

The builders announced the area under cultivation of this plant in the last crop year as 6 hectares.

He said: The average harvest of saffron from Varamin agricultural lands is three kilograms per hectare.

Director of Varamin Agricultural Jihad stated: Although the government has put guaranteed purchase of saffron product on its agenda, but the amount of production of this product in Varamin is to the extent that it is packaged in the city and offered directly by the producers in the market.

Varamin city has more than 80,000 arable lands, which due to the limitations in the supply of water resources, only 38,000 hectares are under cultivation of various crops and gardens.
