Beginning of saffron harvest from 108 hectares in Khomein city
The head of the plant production department of Jihad Keshavarzi Khomeini said: the harvest of saffron started from 108 hectares of farms in this city.
Ali Asghar Kazemi added: The average production of this product from each hectare of cultivated land in Khomein in the current crop year is 6 kg and it is estimated that 600 kg of red gold will be produced and marketed in this city this year.
He continued: Cultivation of this product per hectare has created three job opportunities, and a total of 200 farmers and entrepreneurs of Khomein are engaged in planting saffron.
The head of the plant production department of Jihad Keshavarzi Khomein stated: This city has the first place in the production of saffron in Markazi province and with its susceptible soil and subtropical climate, mild winters and hot and dry summers, it is a favorable place for cultivation and production of this product.
Kazemi said: Khomein saffron has a high quality in terms of aroma, color and taste in the country due to the type of soil and climatic conditions and meets the necessary standards.
He added: Saffron is a drought-resistant crop that has been promoted in recent years in Khomein, especially in its central part, which is struggling with water shortages.
The head of the plant production department of Khomein Jihad Keshavarzi reminded: 470 kg of high quality saffron flowers worth 66 billion Rials were harvested from Khomein farms last year and sent to the market.
Khomein is located in the southern part of Markazi province with a population of 105,000.
Fifty-two percent of Khomeini’s people are farmers, and the region ranks first in saffron, second in Mohammadi, beans and honey in Markazi province.
