Beginning of saffron harvest from 12 hectares in Izeh city
The director of Izeh city Agricultural Jihad announced the beginning of the saffron harvest season in this city and said: saffron cultivation started seven years ago in Izeh.
Cyrus Nowruzi stated: The area under saffron cultivation in Izeh has reached 12 hectares due to its good yield and farmers’ welcome.
He added: On average, 2 kg of saffron is harvested from each hectare of farmland, and it is expected that a total of 24 kg of saffron will be harvested in Izeh this year.
The director of Izeh Agricultural Jihad emphasized: saffron cultivation in Izeh is done in a traditional and dry way, the climate and climatic conditions of this city are compatible with this product and this has caused the area under cultivation of this product to increase.
He said: in Izeh city, with a cultivated area of ??12 hectares out of a total of 20 hectares of lands under saffron cultivation in Khuzestan province, it ranks first in the province.
Nowruzi announced the distribution of 30 tons of free saffron onions among Izeh farmers and specified: For more than 10 years, the Izeh Agricultural Jihad Extension Office has been training and holding extension classes for saffron cultivation in the sloping lands of this city and now we are witnessing an increase in level. We are cultivating this crop in the region.
He added: saffron is planted in the months of September to October and the highest area under cultivation of this crop is in the village of Qala-e-Sard in Dehdez district, which due to the foothills of this village, has had a very good yield.
Izeh city with about 53 thousand hectares of agricultural land is one of the agricultural hubs in the east of Khuzestan, the center of which is located 183 km from Ahvaz.
