Beginning of saffron harvest from 150 hectares in Markazi province

The deputy director of horticulture of Markazi Jihad Agricultural Organization announced the beginning of saffron harvest in the province.

Ahmad Asadi added: Saffron harvest has started on November 6 and will continue until the end of the first decade of December.

He said: the area under saffron cultivation is about 150 hectares and it is predicted that about 400 kilograms of saffron will be harvested from these cultivated areas.

Asadi, stating that the average yield of saffron is about 3.2 tenths of a kilogram per hectare, said: Most saffron farms in the province are young and we are developing these farms.

The deputy director of horticulture of the Jihad Agriculture Organization of Markazi province said: the development of saffron cultivation in Markazi province is progressing very fast.

He stated that the number of saffron farmers in this harvest season is 400 and added: there is the highest area of ??saffron cultivation with 40 hectares in Khomein city and the lowest amount of cultivated area with two hectares in Khondab city.

Asadi reminded: saffron cultivation is on the agenda according to the policies of the Agricultural Jihad Organization in order to develop low-water crops with high economic justification in the province and the cultivation of this product is developing in potential areas of the province.

Deputy of Horticulture Management of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Markazi Province pointed out: Saffron producers have not yet taken significant action in the field of exporting this product and the saffron product will be sent to Tehran province in addition to meeting the province’s domestic needs.
