Beginning of saffron harvest from 4300 hectares in Khalilabad city
The director of Khalilabad agricultural jihad in Khorasan Razavi province said: saffron harvest has started from 4300 hectares of farms in this city and it is predicted that about 10 tons of saffron will be harvested from this area.
Mahmoud Shaban added: Each hectare of saffron had about 220 working days for the stage and needs to be harvested, which is the maximum labor force in the flower harvest season.
He asked the saffron growers to follow the health protocols according to the situation of the city in terms of the prevalence of corona and to use masks and gloves when harvesting and separating the stigma from the saffron flower.
The director of Khalilabad Agricultural Jihad considered it necessary to observe a distance of 1.5 meters for workers, washing and disinfecting hands before harvesting flowers and removing stigmas.
He continued: After harvesting saffron flowers, farmers should irrigate in time and use urea and potassium chloride fertilizers according to the experts of Jihad Keshavarzi. Apply a variety of chemical fertilizers and micronutrients.
Shaban said that this year, with the reduction of saffron prices, farmers did not want to create new saffron farms. After receiving a letter of introduction from the management of Jihad Keshavarzi, they should deliver the saffron produced this year to the saffron shopping center in the Rural Cooperative Organization.
Khalilabad city with 18,000 hectares of horticultural and agricultural land produces about 238,000 tons of livestock, agricultural and horticultural products.
Grapes, saffron, pomegranate and pistachios are the most important products of this city, which has an export aspect.
