Beginning of saffron harvest in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari

Horticulture director of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Agricultural Jihad Organization announced the beginning of saffron harvest from Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari orchards.

Ebrahim Shirani, referring to the beginning of saffron harvest in the province, said: This year, the area under saffron cultivation in the province with 30 hectares of development compared to last year, is 105 hectares.

He considered the suitable geographical conditions of the province, climatic diversity and altitude as the effective factors in the optimal cultivation of this product and added: saffron is planted by its onion in the first year and yields for 10 consecutive years. Fortunately, the province’s saffron is at a high level in terms of quality.

Shirani, stating that the saffron produced in the province will be sent to Khorasan province and will be exported under the brand of that province, said: If the production of saffron in the province increases, this product will be exported from the province by obtaining the necessary license for branding.

He pointed out that this year it is expected to harvest an average of four kilograms of saffron per hectare, he specified: Farsan, Kiar and Ben counties are the main counties for saffron cultivation and production in the province.

Referring to the fact that saffron onions are sent to Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari from Khorasan province, Shirani added: 120 tons of onions have been imported to the province this year.

He pointed out that the main problem of the exploiters is the non-payment of facilities, he specified: this organization is following up and if the credit is provided, it will provide facilities to the exploiters and can be done with proper planning in marketing, packaging and identification of saffron in the province.
