Hossein Rastgar, head of the Ministry of Health’s reference laboratories, said in a conversation with a healthcare journalist at the Young Scientists’ Club on the state of health of saffron powdered powders. Saffron prepared powders are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
He added that these powders are completely counterfeit and composed of chemical dyes, some of which are color-edible, and some of which use tartrazine chemical.
Rastgar emphasized that the highly hazardous and carcinogenic tartarazine chemical and the distribution of these non-sanitary products are prohibited.
“Saffron powder is sold in subways at very low prices,” he said. Unfortunately, due to the low cost of these powders, consumption among people is very common.
