Cultivation of saffron onions in the lands of Ahar city
The director of Jihad-e-Keshavarzi of Ahar city announced the cultivation of saffron onions in six hectares of the city’s lands in the 1399 crop year.
Mohammad Asadi, on the sidelines of visiting the farms cultivating saffron in the lands of Naqareh Koob village of Ahar city, said: in order to achieve the goals of a resilient economy and create productive employment, prevent rural migration, increase the income of farmers and non-oil exports and water needs. The lack of this product and the need to change the cultivation pattern, the experts and promoters of this management, promoted the cultivation of saffron and rosemary in their program.
He added: Fortunately, the number of people interested in cultivating this crop is increasing day by day, and currently about six hectares of the city’s lands have been cultivated without using subsidized seedling credits and free facilities.
He said: At present, the area of saffron cultivation in the city is 12 hectares and its average yield per unit area is four kilograms per hectare and in some of the leading saffron farms, 10 kilograms per hectare is harvested.
According to the public relations of the Jihad Agriculture Organization of the province, Asadi asked the farmers to refer to the management and Jihad Agriculture centers of the city for guidance on how to prepare onions and how to cultivate them, considering the little time left to cultivate this crop.
