Development of cultivation medicinal plants and saffron Famenin Hamedan

The director of Jihad-e-Agriculture of Famenin city of Hamedan province announced the development of cultivation of medicinal plants and saffron in this city and added: according to the policies of Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization, we seek to develop cultivation of medicinal plants and saffron and replace low-water products with water-based products.

Amir Lahoutian stated: We are moving towards replacing and cultivating medicinal plants, saffron, ostrich breeding and greenhouse products.

He continued: In this regard, this year, 48,000 tons of watermelons have been harvested from 800 hectares of cultivated area of ​​the city, which according to the policies of the organization, this area has increased from 2,000 hectares in 2008-2009 to 800 hectares this year.

He added: For this reason, rapeseed has replaced watermelon cultivation in the city, so that this year we had a production of one thousand tons, equivalent to 20% of the province’s production, and we took the second place in harvesting this type of product after Nahavand.

Lahoutian further stated: This year, 12,000 tons of fodder crops have been harvested from the 300-hectare cultivated area in the city, so that it has 10% of the production and is ranked fifth in the province.

He stated: In this year, 1,500 tons of sugar beet has been harvested from 250 hectares of cultivated area, and thus Famenin city has been ranked third in the province in this regard.

He continued: Also, this year, 7,000 tons of tomatoes have been harvested from 400 hectares of cultivated area and it has gained the third rank in the province.

The director of Jihad-e-Keshavarzi of Famenin city also announced the production of 60,000 tons of alfalfa from 5,000 hectares of cultivated area in this city and said: this harvest rate includes 10% of the province’s production.
