The Director General of the Office of Medicinal Plants of the Ministry of Jihad for Agriculture, referring to the importance and position of Iranian saffron in the world market, continued: For example, per capita consumption of saffron in Iran is between 0.7 grams to one gram. ; Because over 330 tons of saffron is harvested annually in Iran from about 110,000 hectares of farms and our country is the first undisputed producer of this strategic and valuable product in the world.
Yousefi Azar added: This is while Iranian saffron is often exported to world markets in the name of Spain and Italy due to the lack of proper branding, but to globalize Iranian saffron and strengthen this industry, we have started a saffron development project with 60 billion tomans of credit. It will be implemented from next year. Also, we will launch a saffron support package in the framework of the national program of this product and the National Saffron Fund soon, so that we can develop the Iranian saffron market in the world while increasing the per capita domestic consumption.
He added: The importance and role of saffron is such that its export amount was $ 330 million last year, which was more than the export of $ 310 million worth of Iranian carpets with this amount of advertising.

At the end of the ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Office of Medicinal Plants of the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture and the Faculty of Pharmacy of Tehran University of Medical Sciences for joint cooperation in the field of medicinal plants.
