Halving the price of Iranian saffron in world markets

A member of the National Saffron Council announced the halving of the price of saffron in world markets and said:
Due to the reduction in the purchase price of saffron in world markets, the customs value of this product should also be reduced.

Ali Hosseini – Vice President of the Association of Saffron Producers and Exporters of South Khorasan said:
for the export of saffron more than 30 grams of five percent customs tariff will be collected, which due to the devaluation
of saffron exports in world markets should reduce the customs rate of this product.

According to him, the customs value of saffron is set at $ 2,300 per kilogram,
while this product sells for $ 1,000 to $ 1,100 per kilogram in world markets.

Hosseini added:
The customs value of saffron is about twice the real value of its sale in global markets, so it is necessary to reconsider this price.

Vice President of the Association of Saffron Producers and Exporters of South Khorasan said:
Currently, the export price of saffron in world markets is half of its customs value,
which has been addressed in a letter to the Trade Development Organization.

He pointed out:
The customs rate of saffron is based on the selling price of this product in the world markets last year,
while its export value has decreased this year due to exchange rate fluctuations.

Hosseini, pointing out that the customs price of saffron varies according to the type and packaging, said:
for packages over 30 grams per kilogram, the customs value is $ 2,000, which should be reduced to $ 1,200.
Also, for saffron packages of 10 to 30 grams, the customs value is $ 3,300, which should be reduced to $ 1,200.

According to a member of the National Saffron Council, for the export of saffron packages of less than 10 grams,
a customs value of $ 3,500 is collected, which should be reduced to $ 1,500 according to the export rates of this product this year.

He said:
packages of 10 to 30 grams of saffron powder have a customs value of $ 3,700, which is unrealistic and should be reduced.
Packages of saffron powder weighing 5 to 10 grams weigh $ 3,900, packages of saffron powder weighing less than five grams cost $ 4,000,
and packages of saffron powder weighing less than one gram cost $ 4,200. If now in the world markets can not export at this rate.

The vice president of the South Khorasan Saffron Producers and Exporters Association said:
Basic and unground saffron has a customs value of $ 2,000,
which has been proposed to the Trade Development Organization to be reduced to $ 1,200 this year, considering the export prices.

According to him, with the reduction of export rates, the amount of non-oil exports will decrease statistically,
so when the customs considers the export value of saffron per 2000 to 4000 dollars,
the country’s foreign exchange statistics are also wrong because the country’s foreign exchange earnings from saffron
exports are half the customs rate.
