Harvesting more than 1 ton of saffron in North Khorasan
The director of horticultural affairs of North Khorasan Jihad announced the harvest
of one and a half tons of saffron in the province.
Haidar Namvar stated that saffron has been planted in 570 hectares of lands in the province, stating:
360 hectares of lands in the region are fertile and the rest is barren land.
He said:
This year, an average of 4 kg of saffron was harvested per hectare.
Namvar said:
Last year, 470 hectares of saffron cultivation area was harvested 1700 kg of saffron,
which was more than 30% more than last year.
He added:
The highest planting area of saffron is Farooji (400 hectares) and Asflayas (120 hectares).
Namvar described the cultivation of saffron in the province as traditional and noted:
The useful yield of this product is five to six years, but it can be harvested for up to 10 years.
He added:
the price of each kilo of saffron is 230 to 39 thousand tomans.
Haidar Namvar said:
this year, the province allocated 340 hectares of agricultural land for planting this crop,
and about 3 kilograms of pure saffron can be harvested per hectare.
He added:
Most of the planted saffron is related to Farooj and Esfarayen counties and a small amount is cultivated in Shirvan.
The director of the horticulture department of the North Khorasan Agricultural Jihad Organization said:
Last year, 340 hectares of the province’s lands were planted with saffron.
He mentioned the tradition of the province in planting mainly saffron and added:
the best yield period of this product is five to six years and this period can last up to 10 years.
