Harvesting more than 22 kg of saffron in Kurdistan province
Zahed Hajimirzaei, director of horticultural affairs of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Kurdistan Province, stated:
At present, 60 farmers in Kurdistan Province are cultivating and producing saffron.
He added:
In the current crop year, 42 hectares and 500 square meters of land in Kurdistan province have been allocated for saffron cultivation,
of which about 23 hectares are fertile and 19 hectares are infertile.
Director of Horticulture of Kurdistan Jihad Agricultural Organization continued:
The highest area of saffron cultivation is allocated to Dehgolan city with 8 hectares,
followed by Bijar with more than 7 hectares and Sarvabad with more than 6 hectares in the next categories.
He specified:
This year, more than 22 kg of saffron will be harvested in Kurdistan province, most of which is related to Dehgolan with 9 kg.
He pointed to the benefits of saffron cultivation in the province and said:
saffron on the one hand has an extremely low water requirement on the other hand in terms of employment is really
employment and needs a lot of manpower during operation and its processing and use in food industry,
power It has high exports and ultimately a good income.
Hajimirzaei said:
Considering that most of our saffron growers are in the early years of their production and saffron
enters the process of reproduction and exploitation from the third year onwards, its production rate is low,
but if we reach the peak of saffron production per hectare between 5 to 7 kg yield will have.
The director of horticulture affairs of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Kurdistan Province stated:
The development of saffron cultivation in Kurdistan is one of the most important programs of the Jihad Keshavarzi to increase
the income of farmers in low-yield lands.
