The head of the North Khorasan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization said: the area under saffron cultivation in this province will increase by 330 hectares in the next five years.

Abdullah Yousefi stated: This increase in the area under saffron cultivation is one of the programs prepared to achieve a resilient economy, and it is expected that the production of this product will increase by 1.05 tons during this period.

He described the granting of capital banking facilities to saffron growers as supportive measures for the development of this product and said: From the credits of the Supreme Leader’s trip to the province, 53 billion and 896 million Rials were approved for the development of 197 hectares, which was given to 168 farmers. Injected.

He said that one of the problems in saffron production is packaging, he said: We are pursuing to obtain the license of three saffron processing and packaging stations in the province.

According to him, out of 1,238 hectares of land under saffron cultivation, 780 hectares are fertile and 458 hectares are infertile, and the yield per unit area of ??this crop in the province is reported to be 1.4 kg per hectare.

Yousefi pointed out that North Khorasan ranks first in the country in terms of performance in saffron production, adding: In the province, 3.2 tons of this product is produced annually, which is more than 3.7 tons in 1995. It is estimated.

He said: with the increase of 607 hectares in the area under saffron cultivation in the last crop year, this province has gained the third rank in the country after Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan in terms of area under cultivation.

Yousefi, stating that the main saffron growers in the province are in Farooj city, said: the lack of identification in the seeds required for the development of saffron cultivation has caused us to see incorrect and non-standard selection in this field.
