Increase saffron exports with packages less than 30 grams
The head of the saffron council announced a significant increase in saffron exports with packages of less than 10 and 30 grams this year and said: the price of saffron, which had decreased to 1.5 million tomans per kilogram in world markets, is now reduced to 2 million to 2 million kilograms. 300 thousand tomans has increased.
Gholam Hossein Shafei said: This year, 170 to 200 tons of saffron have been harvested from the two provinces of South Khorasan and Khorasan Razavi, which is almost equivalent to last year’s production.
He announced a significant increase in saffron exports in packages under 10 and under 30 grams this year and said: This will cause Iranian saffron to reach the final consumer and reduce the export of bulk saffron.
Shafei, referring to the implementation of the pilot project of saffron identification, improving the harvest quality of this product in three cities of the country, said: This project was completed with a very low cost and high efficiency.
The chairman of the Saffron Council stated that one of the problems is the presence of microbial contamination in Iranian saffron in world markets.
According to him, due to the fact that most of the farmers and farmers are smallholders and rural, they have not received enough training and their traditional perception is difficult from a health point of view.
Shafei considered water shortage and drought as one of the main problems of farmers in saffron production and said: If the amount of rainfall remains proportional until the end of May, we will have a more favorable situation next year.
The head of the Saffron Council of Iran stated that the main problem of saffron production is the low production efficiency and specified: At present, three kilometers of saffron is harvested from each hectare, while the yield per hectare can be increased to 10 kg.
He pointed out that increasing the yield per unit area is one of the issues in the comprehensive plan of saffron, he said: strengthening the land, scientific planting, reducing waste in harvest will increase yield in saffron harvest.
The head of the National Saffron Council, referring to the approval of the comprehensive plan of saffron in the presidency and the Ministry of Jihad Agriculture, said: This plan has not been implemented yet and is waiting for funding, which requires 250 billion tomans for full implementation.
Shafei added: Currently, saffron is harvested quite traditionally, which has a negative effect on product quality, waste and saffron health.
He pointed out: there are enough packaging units in Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan provinces, but no action has been taken in the field of saffron conversion industries (pharmaceutical, health and cosmetic industries) and saffron conversion industries are facing a vacuum.
The head of the National Saffron Council, referring to the ups and downs of saffron this year, said: The price of saffron in recent months in global markets has decreased by one million and 500 thousand tomans per kilogram, but now at last year’s price of two million to two million kilograms And has reached 300 Tomans.
He added: This year, we did not have very good conditions in the production of saffron, but despite the economic problems in global markets, this product has maintained itself in global markets. It is only necessary to take basic action in the processing and packaging industries of this product so that we can maintain this product, which is the world’s leading producer in international markets.
