Emphasizing that saffron is a commercial and export plant and is known as the most expensive medicinal plant, the Deputy of Plant Production Improvement of Hamedan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization announced the increase of saffron cultivation in Hamedan province.

Shahram Parvaresh in the specialized working group on economic affairs of Hamadan province, pointing out that Iran is currently the largest producer of saffron in the world, said: The area under cultivation of this plant in Hamadan province has increased from 17 hectares in 2005 to 63 hectares in 2014. .

He specified: 96% of the country’s saffron is produced in Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan provinces and the rest is the share of other provinces, so that Hamedan province is currently ranked tenth in saffron production.

Viba stated that water productivity in saffron cultivation is high and has high employment and income, reminded: in 1393, 159 tons of saffron worth 227 million dollars were exported to 54 countries.

Cultivation of high income generation of this product compared to other agricultural products is one of the benefits of saffron cultivation and said: water productivity in saffron cultivation is high so that the most use of green water is in saffron cultivation.

The Deputy Minister of Crop Production Improvement of Hamedan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization pointed out: The trend of saffron production in Hamedan province has increased from 42 tons in 2005 to 140 tons in 2016.

Pointing out that Golmohammadi has a good export position among agricultural products, he said: Iran has been one of the oldest rose producing countries in the world and currently various products such as rose, essential oil and dried buds of this plant are used.

Parvaresh, stating that the production of Golmohammadi is currently 88 tons, said: The area under cultivation of Golmohammadi in Hamadan province has increased from 52 hectares in 2005 to 55 hectares in 2015.

Emphasizing that 80% of the world’s people use 200 species of medicinal plants to treat the disease, he said: In Hamedan province, 400 hectares of medicinal plants are cultivated and 11,400 tons of medicinal plants are produced annually.

Deputy of Plant Production Improvement of Hamedan Jihad-e-Agriculture Organization, pointing out that Hamedan province has the second rank in the production of medicinal plants, said: 50% of coriander and 95% of fennel are produced in Hamedan province.

He considered the lack of sufficient knowledge of the capability of the medicinal plants industry, the lack of prescription of herbal medicines by doctors and the poor performance of some traders and the inappropriate distribution of medicinal plants as the problems of this product.

Parvaresh stated that last year more than 15 thousand tons of medicinal plants were produced in Hamadan province, continued: From 2005 to 2015, the area under cultivation of medicinal plants in Hamadan province increased from 3314 hectares to 5950 hectares and its production increased from 6757 tons to 15 thousand And has reached 52 tons.
