Increasing the production of red gold (saffron) in Gilan
The director of horticulture affairs of Gilan Jihad Agricultural Organization announced the increase of production and applicants for saffron cultivation in the province.
Manouchehr Parsafar stated:
Saffron production is one of the side jobs with a suitable income that in province the area under cultivation and the number
of applicants is increasing.
He added:
192 families in province are active in saffron production and the cities of Amlash, Rudbar, Siahkal,
Talesh and Astar produce more red gold than other cities in the province.
Parsafar continued:
Saffron production started on a trial basis in province in 2008 and so far 33 hectares of agricultural lands in these cities are dedicated to saffron
cultivation and production.
He added:
Upstream lands are suitable for the production of this product in the mentioned cities,
and we recommend that more people work to enter this field due to the suitable soil of the province plain for propagating saffron onions.
The director of horticulture affairs of Gilan Jihad Agricultural Organization pointed out:
in case of development of allocating lands of province plain to reproduce saffron onions,
in addition to the needs of the province, the needs of our neighboring provinces will also be met with saffron onions.
Parsafar, pointing out that taste, color and aroma are important factors of a good saffron, said:
In some cities, these three factors are even better than Khorasan saffron.
He added:
Currently, a total of 58 kg of red gold is produced in Gilan and the yield of saffron production per hectare is three kg,
which we have a good performance due to the climatic conditions of Gilan.
