Persian saffron is an export-oriented commodity
Shirzad said Iranian saffron is export-oriented and needs a modern market and a standard product, so if the price of this product is lower than conventional and fair, domestic producers are losing their production and abandoning it.
The director of the central rural cooperatives added: “If the price is high, foreign merchants and foreign consumers will buy saffron from other countries, which will encourage the cultivation of this product in other countries, in the future countries like Afghanistan and India will rival Iran in the production of saffron Therefore, the pricing of saffron is a very sensitive process that requires the experience, guidance and participation of all product chain rings, including manufacturers, packaging industries and exporters.
Shirzad pointed out that the central organization of rural cooperatives in the crop year of 1396-1397 has tried to modernize the market of saffron (physical market, commodity deposit and futures exchange market) and product standardization to help export reddish gold, based on speculation The Cooperative Business Bureau has provided over 250 tons of saffron worth more than $ 352 million from the country to international markets with an average kilogram price of at least $ 970 and a maximum of $ 1,300.
He added: “In 1996, the price of saffron fell sharply and reached less than a kilogram of three million tomans, when the central rural cooperative, represented by the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, with the aim of protecting producers, was forced to buy saffron and close to 67 tons of saffron Jeweled jewelry, queen jewelery, high quality rosary and casual shoes.
The director of the central rural cooperatives added: this year, the observation of the world market price and the inherent value of the saffron product compared to other products based on the price of saffron purchased and the total saffron was presented transparently in the stock exchange for domestic and export, and in The final stages of the supply of saffron, the price level was adjusted to be the basis for the new farmer’s product.
Shirzad continued: In other words, the proper establishment of the price of the floor of various types of saffron produced in different parts of the country will be provided for the year ahead.
He noted that the observation of prices in the market indicates that the price of this product was due to the storage capacity, the slow supply of fresh saffron by farmers, and the ongoing market thirst for the continued supply of saffron in the previous year.
