Iranian saffron exports reached $ 97 million
Last year, saffron exports reached 96 million and 758 thousand dollars, which was 2% more than the previous year.
The weight of saffron exported last year was 201 tons, which shows an increase of 17% compared to 2004.
The highest amount of saffron exports in 2005, ie 85% of the total was sent to the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Italy and India.
The total value of Iranian saffron exported to the five countries last year was 82 million and 200 thousand dollars.
According to the customs, including saffron, the total export of industrial and medicinal plants last year reached
124 million and 800 thousand dollars, which has not changed significantly compared to the previous year.
Taiwan, Italy, Germany, Egypt and China were the best buyers of industrial medicinal plants from Iran in 2005.
Seyyed Ruhollah Latifi stated:
120 thousand and 462 kilograms of saffron in packages of less than 10 grams, from 10 grams to 30 grams and over 30 grams have been exported
during this period, of which 75 thousand and 543 kilograms in packages of more than 30 Grams (bulk),
30 thousand and 22 kg in packages under 10 grams and 14 thousand and 897 kg in packages of 10 to 30 grams.
He added:
with China buying 24 thousand 519 kg worth 13 million 359 thousand 746 dollars in the first place to buy bulk saffron,
Spain with 17 thousand 606 kg and worth 7 million 567 thousand 570 dollars are in the second place
and the UAE with 11 thousand 825 kg worth 5 million 794 thousand 821 dollars are in the third place.
