Medicine and Health – Iranian saffron cures MS
Experts from the University of Alberta in the United States have confirmed in an interesting experiment that Iranian saffron cures MS.
Experts say: This Iranian spice contains an active ingredient that can be used to treat inflammatory diseases such as MS.
We have identified a substance in saffron called crocin that protects brain cells in vitro and other models of MS, they say.
It actually prevents damage to the cells that make the myelin sheath in the brain. Myelin is a layer that acts as a protective insulator around neurons (brain cells).
MS involves inflammation in the brain cells in which the brain cells lose their protective insulation. Experts emphasize that although they are not yet in the clinical trials, the new finding is very interesting and very promising in the field of MS treatment in the future. Descriptions of these experiments have been published in the American Journal of Immunology.
