Mismanagement threatens the global saffron market
The head of the Khorasan Razavi Saffron Exporters’ Union said: Mismanagement destroys the global saffron market.
Gholamreza Miri stated: Mismanagement causes the destruction of Iran’s position in the global saffron market.
He called the main problem in the discussion of saffron exports price fluctuations and added: Countries that protest against 1% inflation can not tolerate 50% changes in saffron prices in two months.
He said that Iran supplies saffron to 47 countries in the world, adding that price instability in the saffron product will destroy the destination markets and others will take Iran’s place in this market.
He added: Producers of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan generally produce their saffron products in small and uneven fields, which due to recent droughts and drying of aqueducts, has caused the migration of these people to the outskirts of cities.
Miri announced the harvest time of saffron from October 16 to November 26 and added: Every year, purchases are reduced in August and September, and foreign buyers do not make purchases unless necessary.
He continued: The decrease in saffron exports in August and September will reduce the price of this product, because 85% of the province’s saffron is exported and only 20% of it is for domestic consumption.
