Planting saffron in a vast area of Sarayan city
Birjand – Director of Agricultural Jihad-Sarayan said: Currently, there are 2,540 hectares of agricultural land under cultivation of saffron.
Musa Soleymani, in an interview with Mehr News Agency, said that over 10 tons of saffron were annually harvested from the agricultural fields of the city, Saffron was ranked second in the province for saffron production.
He pointed to the phenomenon of smuggling onion saffron and its effects on the employment of the city and said: Saffron is a strategic product that for the continued cultivation and development of goldsmiths, export of onion saffron and its exclusion from the city is prohibited and authorized by the Agricultural Jihad.
Director of Agricultural Jihad Sarayan said that the employment of this product is not like any other product, said that at the time of harvesting saffron, about 30 days for farmers to create jobs, and in addition to planting this product will have a high productivity for them.
Soleymani added: Saffron is one of the products that can be planted in less drought conditions with less water than other products. Therefore, cultivation of this product plays a significant role in the employment of the region.
Pointing out that export of saffron onion to other provinces could affect the employment of the region to some extent, he said: In addition, the smuggle of saffron onions into other countries such as Afghanistan over the past years has caused the country’s saffron Therefore, it must be confronted with.
Soleymani continued: Saffron bulb out of the city sought poverty and unemployment for the city and province.
He said: “On the other hand, given the many years of drought, there is no possibility of developing farms, and the sale of onions can be a source of income for them, so the onion withdrawal should be authorized by the Agricultural Jihad.
