Predicting the increase of saffron cultivation area in Markazi province

The deputy director of horticulture of the Jihad Agricultural Organization of Markazi province announced an increase in the area under saffron cultivation in the province.

Ahmad Asadi stated: Due to the importance of saffron development in the province in line with the need for less water and its suitability with the province’s climate, we are strongly developing this plant in the province. In this regard, various training classes have been held in terms of technology and expertise, and horticultural experts work in the field of saffron farms and gardens.

Deputy Director of Horticulture of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Markazi Province, pointing out that most of the saffron cultivation operations are done through manpower, added: A lot of manpower is needed to cultivate and harvest this product, and therefore increase the area of ??20 hectares to develop saffron Many years.
The development of this amount of saffron to the area under saffron cultivation in the province is a very good level and based on the visits made, 15 hectares of this amount has been achieved and it is predicted that it will increase to 20 hectares.

Asadi stated: saffron cultivation will start from the beginning of September and will continue until October 6th. In coordination with Khorasan province, saffron bulbs with health certificates have been transported to the province and are being distributed and cultivated. On average, five tons of saffron onions are used per hectare, which is expected to consume 100 tons of saffron onions in the province.

Asadi continued: According to the available statistics, about 75 hectares of saffron onions have been used in 15 hectares cultivated.

Deputy Horticulture Director of Jihad Agricultural Organization of Markazi Province said: An average of 3.5 to 4 kg of saffron is harvested per hectare worth 6.5 to 7 million Tomans per kilo of saffron, which is highly economical compared to the low cost of water and energy used. Based on this, income per hectare of saffron is 28 to 34 million tomans.

Asadi pointed out: Cultivation of this crop has a high production efficiency due to its low cost and low amount of water that is consumed, and we intend to develop this cultivation pattern to cultivate low-water plants, especially in water-scarce areas of the province. The highest area under saffron cultivation is in Khomein, Mahallat, Delijan and Komijan cities, respectively.

Referring to the development of cultivation of this crop in these cities, he pointed to the development of 10 hectares in Khomein, four hectares in Komijan, four hectares in Mahallat and 2 hectares in Delijan and continued: Last year, out of a total of 147 hectares of saffron cultivation, about 360 kg of saffron was harvested, which is expected to reach 170 hectares this year with a production of 700 kg.
