Prediction of harvesting 1.5 tons of saffron from 250 hectares in Bahabad
The director of Jihad Agriculture of Bahabad city predicted that the saffron growers of this city would harvest one and a half tons of saffron
from 250 hectares of cultivated lands of the city.
Director of Bahabad Jihad-e-Agriculture continued:
Saffron is a water-loving plant and a good source of income for farmers,
city saffron has a special quality in terms of taste, color and excellent rank in the country;
As the amount of saffron purchased in city is more than saffron in other regions.
The director of Bahabad Jihad-e-Agriculture announced the time of saffron harvest in city according to the weather situation
and the cooling of the weather from November to the end of the harvest in the first half of December.
Most of the saffron production areas are in city , the central part, Asfij and Benistan rural districts.
Saffron was cultivated for the first time in city in the village of Banestan and gradually its cultivation was expanded in other places,
so that now Bahabad city is the second largest producer of saffron in Yazd province after Tabas.
The lack of conversion industries in the region,
traditional planting and harvesting is one of the problems of city saffron growers that the authorities should take action to develop this product.
