Production, export and price of Iranian red gold (saffron)

A member of the National Saffron Council announced a 10% increase in the area under cultivation
and a doubling of saffron exports this year if there were no problems with the export of red gold.

Ali Hosseini said:
Considering the impact of rainfall in the last months of last year and early this year on increasing saffron flowering,
saffron growers are expected to have a good year and increase production by more than 10% to reach more than 250 tons.

He added:
Currently, the area under saffron cultivation is 80,000 hectares, which is expected to reach about 90,000 hectares by the end of the year.

A member of the National Saffron Council said:
Currently, 3.9 kg of saffron is harvested per hectare,
while in the 60s and 70s the amount of saffron harvested per hectare was five kg,
which should have taken into account the current production of 400 tons of saffron.

Hosseini said that the reason for the decrease in saffron yield was the increase in waste and said: to reduce waste,
while collecting flowers from the fields in time and preventing its movement and long-term storage.
