Production of 16 kg of saffron in Siahkal city
The director of Siahkal Agricultural Jihad said: The saffron produced in Siahkal has been approved by the specialized saffron laboratories of South Khorasan in terms of color, taste and aroma and has gained an excellent grade.
Behzad Kouhestani, Gilan region, said: It is predicted that 16 kg of pure saffron will be produced in this city this year.
He added: 10 hectares of agricultural lands in 32 villages of Deilman and Pirkuh in this city are under saffron cultivation.
Kouhestani has introduced saffron growers to buy and import saffron onions from Khorasan region, noting: for the 2009 crop year, about 12 hectares have been planted with saffron onions, and each hectare is expected to need about 7 to 10 tons of saffron onions.
The director of Siahkal Agricultural Jihad said: Considering that the income from saffron cultivation is higher than wheat and barley as the traditional cultivation of Deilman, it is recommended to the farmers of the region to cultivate saffron as well.
He added: The saffron produced in terms of color, taste and aroma has been approved by specialized saffron laboratories in South Khorasan and has obtained an excellent grade.
