Production of 22 tons of dry saffron in Ghaen city
Mohammad Karimi said on Saturday noon at the Ghaen Barberry and Saffron Thanksgiving Festival:
Currently, planting, holding and harvesting barberry and saffron has created many job opportunities for the people of the region.
Referring to the production of 90% of saffron and 95% of the world’s saffron in the country, he said:
At present, 95% of the barberry produced in the country belongs to South Khorasan.
The governor of Ghaen continued:
Also, Ghaenat city with 22 tons of dry saffron in the level of 5,300 hectares and 7,000 tons of dried barberry
in the level of 6,200 hectares has the first place in the production of these products in the province.
According to him, currently 25,000 job opportunities,
15 processing units and three export units of barberry and saffron are active in city.
The governor of Ghaen, emphasizing the need to improve the level of knowledge of farmers and producers, said:
We must also take steps in the field of organic production of these products.
Karimi said that the cultivation of saffron and barberry will have potential for the country, adding:
We must support the cultivation of these products by creating pharmaceutical, health and food industries.
He also called for the allocation of low-interest facilities for the agreed purchase of these products,
and said that arrangements should also be made for the export of these products.
